History of Women in AT (WAT)
A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CREATION OF WAT AND THE EMPOWERED WOMEN INVOLVED.
WAT was founded March 14th 2018,Â
Founded on the need for female peer companionship in authentic and safe spaces; Women in Athletic Training (WAT) seeks to break down barriers and build women up. Driven by education and empowerment, the WAT community champions each other. We respectfully advocate for ourselves and others in the continual advancement of the athletic training profession.

WAT Symbol
MEANING BEHIND THE SYMBOL
The universal female symbol is for women, the rod of Asciepus for medicine and healthcare, and finally two arrows to represent the Greek goddess, Artemis, a woman warrior and protector of young women.

Mission and Values
WAT 2.0
Mission and Values were formalized through the WAT 2.0 Relaunch
Mission: Founded on the need for female peer companionship in authentic and safe spaces; Women in Athletic Training (WAT) seeks to break down barriers and build women up. Driven by education and empowerment, the WAT community champions each other. We respectfully advocate for ourselves and others in the continual advancement of the athletic training profession.
Values:
WAT is more than AVERAGE
Those found violating the values and mission of our group may have their post deleted or be removed from the group. All posts are subject to admin approval.
Authenticity:
-Speak only for yourself and no one else. Speak from a place of worth and value for both yourself, your peers, and your profession.
-Be Authentic to yourself as an Athletic Trainer - remember that you are here to contribute to the group of Women in Athletic Training as a whole and not to be self-serving
Virtue:
-Only post, comment, or engage with posts that are compliant with all confidentiality and patient privacy standards and are in the best interest (and not the degradation of your patients/ clients). HIPAA and FERPA still apply.
-Confidentiality and Integrity are key components of any interaction - this includes keeping all WAT information within WAT - absolutely no Screen-shots or sharing of discussions with non-members
-If you have a topic that is sensitive in nature or you would prefer to remain anonymous please DM admin or the WAT page your post and it will be posted on your behalf
Empowerment:
-All interactions will come from a place of pride for ourselves and each other, we will assume the best in one another and seek to aid and support thought posts.
-Our lights do not shine brighter by dimming the lights of others. We are not a group to dim the lights of men, other athletic trainers, coaches, strength coaches, etc.
Respect.
-Think before you reply. Think before you post. We are a safe space for all, not a place to lessen those around us.
-Posts should be professional and refrain from insult, sarcasm, Gripe-fests, or foul language. While professional debate is acceptable, attacking anyone on their stance or post will not be tolerated and will result in your removal from the group.
Advocacy:
-We represent ourselves and the profession in all that we do and we will help each other to find the opportunities in our struggles and reach out to those in need. We will phrase all interactions with these intentions.
-Advocate for your future networking
Growth:
-We are a tight-knit community and are only as bright as our darkest corner, add to the light – don’t detract.
-As evidence based research methods are built into the profession - we expect to utilize Google/GoogleScholar and Group Search prior to asking the group.
ElevATe:
-This is a community for women in Athletic Training to focus around Athletic Training
-If you see something, Say something.
